Senior Urban Designer

Harriman is seeking a highly-motivated, self-directed and creative urban designer to manage and contribute to a number of the firm’s projects in its Boston based urban design and planning studio. Responsibilities include managing project budgets and schedule, directing staff and subconsultants, managing clients, developing urban design concepts, communicating design concepts through the development of 3D models and other computer graphics, and developing and delivering graphically compelling reports and presentations to clients and community groups. Other responsibilities include participating in business development by preparing scopes and budgets, proposals, interview presentations and representing Harriman at industry events, networking events and conferences.

Applicants should have excellent design, physical planning, organizational and communication skills, and the ability to produce high-quality work products within budget both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team on multiple time-sensitive assignments. Applicants should possess 7 or more years experience, with at least 2 years of that experience in urban design.

Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical capabilities and design sense
  • Strong computer graphic skills
  • Excellent conceptual design skills
  • An advanced degree in urban design, architecture or related field
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Experience and comfort with public speaking and leading meetings
  • Experience organizing and writing complex reports

This position requires a valid drivers license and evening availability for attending public meetings.

 

Urban Planner and Project Manager

Harriman is seeking a highly-motivated, self-directed and creative planner to take an active role managing a number of projects in its Boston based urban design and planning studio. Responsibilities include maintaining overall control and responsibility for projects; organizing and directing project teams, including sub-consultants; managing client relationships; developing scopes of services and managing budgets and schedules; and developing high quality, thoughtful deliverables.

Applicants should have excellent organizational and communication skills and the ability to produce high-quality work products within budget both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team on multiple time-sensitive assignments. Applicants should possess strong research, writing and presentation skills, excellent conceptual design skills with land use and physical planning experience, experience in developing zoning recommendations, and curiosity to explore and try out new professional methods and tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for design, presentation, documentation and production of planning projects
  • Develop strategic recommendations
  • Prepare technical studies to support recommendations
  • Prepare technical and illustrative materials for meetings
  • Conduct public outreach and community engagement programs, including interviews and on-site outreach
  • Lead meetings with clients, advisory committees, stakeholders, municipal officials and the general public
  • Organize and write reports

Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in city planning, urban design or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional planning experience
  • Experience managing projects, including writing scopes of services, developing internal project teams, managing budgets, managing schedules, and directing staff contributions to projects

Urban Designer

Harriman is seeking a highly-motivated, self-directed and creative urban designer to contribute to a number of the firm’s projects in its Boston based urban design and planning studio. Responsibilities include developing urban design concepts, communicating design concepts through the development of 3D models and other computer graphics, and developing content for compelling presentations to clients and community groups.

Applicants should have excellent design, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to produce high-quality work products both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team on multiple time-sensitive assignments. Applicants should possess at least 3 years of urban design experience including:
